June 6, 2007 — The second and third shooting incidents in three days in Smith Bay left a man dead and a woman injured, according to a V.I. Police Department news release.
Dead is Samuel Fahie, 46, a Smith Bay resident. His body was discovered Wednesday morning in the vicinity of Lake’s Chicken Fry, and Police were dispatched at 7:48 a.m., the news release said.
In the early-morning hours Wednesday, a female reported getting shot in the same area. Police were dispatched at 12:36 a.m. and recovered a firearm from the scene. The female was taken to Roy L. Schneider Regional Medical Center for treatment, and her injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
The shootings Wednesday come two days after the death of Dale O. Samuel, 53, who was fatally shot by an intruder inside his home behind Domino Gas in Smith Bay. Fahie's death brings to nine the total number of homicides so far this year on St. Thomas, with the territory-wide total rising to 15.
At present Police do not know if the Smith Bay shooting incidents are connected and are actively seeking information to aid in the investigation of the crimes, according to the news release. "The VIPD reminds residents that community involvement remains a critical component of the police-investigation process," the release said. "Anyone with information is urged to contact the confidential Major Crime Unit hotline at (340) 715-5544 or 911."
