Third Killing in Three Weeks Takes Kirwan Terrace Teenager

June 1, 2007 — Police on St. Thomas are investigating the killing early Friday morning of a 19-year-old Kirwan Terrace man.
Paulino Remy died of a single gunshot wound, according to Police spokeswoman Shawna Richards. "The time and location of the incident that resulted in Mr. Remy's (death) are presently unknown," she said in a released statement.
Detectives assigned to the Major Crime Unit were dispatched to the Roy L. Schneider Hospital at 12:53 a.m. Friday after receiving reports of an assault victim coming there, Richards said. According to initial reports to police, investigators arrived at the hospital to find the victim unresponsive and undergoing treatment.
"The victim was taken for emergency surgery and later succumbed to his injury," Richards said.
Remy's death is the third homicide in as many weeks on St. Thomas. It was the fourth killing in just under a month, with a total of 14 homicides in a sixth-month period territory wide.
Remy's killing comes days after police on St. Croix began an investigation into the death of Julio St. Jean, 22, of Estate Smithfield. St. Jean sustained multiple gunshot wounds last Saturday at an Estate Profit Head Start Center.
Investigators are seeking information on this crime and any other unsolved murders, Richards said. Anyone with information is urged to contact the police hotline at (340) 715-5544 or 911 on St. Thomas or 778-4950 or 911 on St. Croix. Callers do not have to identify themselves.
