Living in the VI
May 30, 2007 – As a Delegate to the Constitution Convention, ChenziRa "Dr. Chen" Kahina, will contribute to the composition of a constitution inclusive of more permanent political, social and economic advancements for a United Virgin Islands! Our lives as Virgin Islanders are interconnected with our collective maturity to make this 5 th constitutional convention our final one as we progress beyond being a non-self governing unincorporated US territory. The VI's political maturity has advanced from civil rights into human rights that support self-determination and self-governance in accordance with US laws and UN resolutions. Let's respectfully implement Honorable Governor Cyril King's words: "The mind cannot but fill our sail as we move together as one people to a new dawn, a new day."
Implementation Strategies
May we reflect upon Dr. John Henrik Clarke's words: "Power favors those who handle it properly and strategically."
As a VI Delegate to the 5th Constitutional Convention, I will contribute to:
Strategic empowerment of the will of Virgin Islanders with a clear understanding that this process will reorganize the internal structure of the VI government within the context of the existing political status as our VI territorial-US federal relations is a different process
Implementing methods of governance that support diversified social freedoms & economic development inclusive of tax reform most beneficial to preserving VI land, culture, economics and people
Establishing enforceable laws that minimize threats to public health, our resources and community
Increasing educational reform with cohesive strategies for global and inter-organizational networking for our youth & others
Developing a legal framework for VI women who are the cornerstone of most social, economic and political actions and work
Freedom and Rights
A VI Constitution, with democratic input from Virgin Islanders, will reaffirm respect and reverence to the most positive attributes of the fundamental and human rights of all, native by birth, parental heritage, cultural ancestry, devoted resettlement and/or loyal commitment. The VI represents a unique people with predominantly Afrakan ancestry combined with other ethnic heritages unified in pursuit of happiness life, liberty, security and spirited endowments.
Education and Experience
ChenziRa "Dr. Chen" Kahina is a devoted mother, educator, naturopathic practitioner, counselor, therapist, published writer, performing artist, motivational speaker, ordained minister and entrepreneur. With experience as a managing partner in construction & real estate development businesses, and a NGO/non-profit corporation and formal training from Rutgers (BA); Pepperdine (MS); University of California (PhD Fellow); Natural Health Institute (ND) and other practicum in education, literature, technology, sociology, naturopathic health care and social engineering respectively, I am qualified to offer efficient organizational skills, spirited negotiations and mediation strategies that will assist in the construction, composition and completion of a VI Constitution acceptable and central to the sacred intent of Virgin Islanders.
