Ottley Appointed to State Governments' Regional Conference

May 4, 2007 – Senate President Usie R. Richards has appointed Sen. Basil Ottley to serve as a member of the Council of State Governments' Eastern Regional Conference Northeast States Association for Agricultural Stewardship for 2007-2008. He will be joining representatives from ten northeastern states from Maine to Delaware as well as Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and Canadian provinces such as Newfoundland and Nova Scotia.
The regional organization, established in 1937, works on agricultural and rural issues that promote economic competitiveness and share security interests, among other things.
"I am honored by the trust that Senate President Usie R. Richards has placed in me by this selection. I commit to representing Virgin Islands as a guiding voice in the activities that will promote best practices as well as advocate regional interests in Washington on dairy, specialty crops and conservation. Of course, our top priority will be working on the 2007 Farm Bill to assure regional equity for the region's farmers and agriculture sector," said Sen. Ottley.
