Brief: WMA Working to Repair Sewer Line Serving Nadir Estate

April 18, 2007 — Repairs to a collapsed sewer line in the vicinity of the Clinton Phipps Raceway are under way, according to a press release issued by the V.I. Waste Management Authority.
WMA spokesperson Stella Saunders said Wednesday the main reason sewer lines collapse is due to the age of the lines. "We are working on a preventive plan to overhaul the entire system, but we must address these emergencies as they come up," she said.
The task order contractor for the authority, Island Roads, will be performing excavation to repair the 8-inch gravity line that services the Nadir community. During the repair, sewage will be pumped into a truck and an emergency bypass pump is in place to minimize the impact in the area.
Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes or reduce speed and adhere to posted signs when driving through the area. Residents, especially those with impacted immune systems, are asked to avoid the area while the line is being repaired. The work should be completed within the week, according to WMA officials.
