Forum on St. Croix Development Slated April 17 at UVI Cafetorium
A free public forum on the development of St. Croix is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17, in the Cafetorium on UVI's St. Croix campus. The forum, part of Generation Now's University Series, is entitled "St Croix: From Potential to Prosperity." It will focus on the major hotel and development projects on the drawing board for the big island. Invited panelist from Golden Gaming, William and Punch and Gallows Bay Marina will be present to answer questions on the progress of their respective projects. The forum is co-sponsored by the Student Activities Office. For more information, call 692-4188.

UVI Employee Service Awards Set April 17, 18; Honorees Listed
UVI's 33rd Annual Service Awards ceremonies are scheduled for April 17 and 18 on St. Croix and St. Thomas, respectively. Along with recognizing retirees and active employees for their service to the University in five-year increments, the ceremonies will also feature the announcement of the Employee of the Year on each campus.
The St. Croix ceremony, which will recognize approximately 40 employees, is slated for 2:30 p.m. in the Evans Center Great Hall. The St. Thomas ceremony, which will honor more than 80 employees, will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Reichhold Center for the Arts (Note venu change from Sports and Fitness Center). The public is invited to join in paying tribute to the honorees.

SGA Elections Set April 18 on St. Thomas
Student Government Association (SGA) elections are scheduled for Wednesday, April 18, on UVI's St. Thomas campus. In addition to a president, vice president, treasurer and three senators for the sophomore, junior and senior classes, students will choose a representative to the UVI Board of Trustees. Polling stations will be available from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the Classroom Administration and Business buildings. Trustee candidates are Rick Grant and Shalini Riley. Other candidates include: Toriefa Alexander and Howard Forbes for president; Digna Washington and Matthew Thomas for vice-president; and Daniella Arrindell for treasurer. Senatorial candidates include — Sophomore class: Shantell Adams, Rhashaunda Charles, Andrea Dorsey, Timarah Hodge, Dornnette Lewis, Elisha Jno-Baptiste, Lario Duzanson and Natalie Malone; Junior class: Love Felix and Aimee Sanchez; and Senior class: Semoya Phillips, Aisha Mussington and Lasley-Ann Waldron. A candidate's forum will proceed the elections at noon on Tuesday, April 17, in the Dining Pavilion.

Dr. Javier Donate to Offer Students an Interactive Session on Drugs and Alcohol
An interactive session for students on drug and alcohol use will be presented by Dr. Javier Donate, founder and director of Nueva Generacion, at noon on Thursday, April 19, in the Dining Pavilion on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The session is titled "No Boundaries, Overcome the Limits …. Be Your Best." It is sponsored by the UVI Drug and Alcohol Prevention Committee, the Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS Prevention Program and the Counseling and Placement Office.
Dr. Donate has specialized in the art of creative communication. Refreshments, give-a-ways, music and dancing are planned. The Counseling and Placement Office will conduct alcohol screening for all interested students.

St. Croix Campus Students Encouraged to Participate in SGA
St. Croix campus students are encouraged to participate in the Student Government Association (SGA) by running for the offices of president, vice president, treasurer and senator (two for each class). Applications (Elections Packets) can be obtained at the Student Activities Office. The election for student government officers and for the student representative to the UVI Board of Trustee is scheduled for April 18. More information is available by calling 692-4188.

St. Croix Campus Offers Forum to Answer Questions on Accreditation
Students on UVI's St. Croix campus are invited to attend a forum designed to answer questions about accreditation and how it works for the University. Sessions are planned for noon and again at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, in the Cafetorium. The sessions are organized by the Student Activities Office. Six Schools Coming to UVI Law Fair April 18, 19 on St. Thomas, St. Croix
Students and individuals interested in exploring a career in law are encouraged to attend a Law Fair at the University of the Virgin Islands. Representatives from six prominent law schools will participate in the fair on UVI's St. Thomas campus on Wednesday, April 18, and on the St. Croix campus on Thursday, April 19. Participating schools include Chapman University, Emory University, Nova Southeastern University, Texas Southern University (Thurgood Marshall School of Law), Texas Wesleyan University and the University of the District of Columbia (David A. Clarke School of Law). Faculty are asked to encourage students to participate. A news release is available on the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu.

Calypso Jingle PSA Contest Slated April 18 on St. Thomas Campus
A competition to develop a calypso jingle public service announcement on drug abuse or HIV/AIDS is scheduled for noon, on Thursday, April 18, in the Dining Pavilion on UVI's St. Thomas campus. Students are invited to join in the competition which is sponsored by the Office of the Associate Campus Administrator and the Student Peer Educators group. Entries will be judged on originality, appropriateness and lyrics. A cash prize will go to the winner. The competition is part of UVI's Substance Abuse Avoids prevention program which is funded by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention through McFarland and Associates, Inc. Financial Aid Offices Schedule Staff Training Workshops April 19-20
UVI Financial Aid Offices on both the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses will be closed on Thursday and Friday, April 19 and 20, in order for staff to attend training workshops. The office regrets any inconvenience. Direct questions to Mavis M. Gilchrist at 692-4186.

Film Fest, Cultural Extravaganza to Conclude UVI Humanities Festival
UVI's 2007 Humanities Festival events continue on both the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses through Sunday, April 22. Remaining events include the American Museum of Natural History's Margaret Mead Film festival which will take place simultaneously on the St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses from April 20 through 22, and a Cultural Extravaganza featuring the presentation of the Ghanaian folktale "Anansi and the Magic Pot" at 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, in the St. Croix campus Cafetorium.
