Online Registration Continuing for Summer Sessions, Fall Semester
Online registration for UVI's upcoming summer sessions and the 2007 fall semester is in progress. UVI's online registration system, now called BUCSS – Banner Utilization Central for Self Services – can be accessed from the BUCSS online registration page. Also available are new, printer-friendly versions of the UVI class schedules for the summer sessions and fall semester.

Low-Interest Loan Program Offered for People with Disabilities

The Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence on Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) and the V.I. Assistive Technology Foundation, Inc. offer people with disabilities access to low-interest bank loans to purchase assistive technology (AT) devices through a collaborative partnership with Banco Popular. Participants Sought for UVI Carnival Troupe
Members of the UVI community and supporters are encouraged to join the 2007 UVI Carnival Troupe. A look at troupe costumes and an online sign-up form are available from this UVI Carnival Troupe web page. The troupe will participate in the Carnival Adult's Parade on April 28. The costumes use flames and fire to symbolize UVI's 45 years of "lighting the path to discovery" in the territory. April 24 is the deadline to join the UVI troupe. St. Croix Students Encouraged to Join UVI Carnival Troupe
St. Croix campus students are encouraged to participate in the UVI Carnival troupe. A special deal that will provide free room and board, and round-trip ferry transportation to a limited number of St. Croix campus students who wish to join the troupe has been developed by the Student Activities Office, the Student Government Association and the Campus Executive Administrator's (CEA) Office. Students will have to pay for their costumes and provide a $50 travel deposit (to be refunded if students actually participate in the troupe). This special offer is available for up to 15 students. 33rd Annual Student Awards Program Slated April 14 on St. Croix Campus
The 33rd Annual Student Awards Program on UVI's St. Croix campus are scheduled at the Great Hall at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 14. The entire UVI community is invited to join in celebrating the accomplishments of these distinguished students. Fore more information, call 693-4188.

Women's Health Symposium Set April 15 on St. Thomas Campus
A women's health symposium on breast, cervical, ovarian and uterine cancer will be held free of charge at 6 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, at Chase Auditorium (Business-110) on UVI's St. Thomas campus. The symposium goal is to help to meet the Healthy People 2010 goal of eliminating health disparities. A distinguished panel of physicians, nurses and a cancer survivor will provide timely information and be available to answer questions. The symposium is open to UVI students, faculty, staff and friends. It is sponsored by Chantal Hanley, a senior nursing student on the St. Thomas campus. Woodworkers Organizational Meeting Set April 15 on St. Thomas and St. Croix
The University of the Virgin Islands Cooperative Extension Service will sponsor an organizational meeting for woodworkers on St. Thomas/St. John and St. Croix. The meeting will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 15, in Teacher Education room 115 on the St. Thomas campus, with a video-conference link to Evans Center room 802 on the St. Croix campus. Story Telling, Creative Writing, Film Fest Headline UVI Humanities Festival
UVI's 2007 Humanities Festival events continue on both the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses through Sunday, April 22. Events on Sunday, April 15, include a session of story telling and the announcement of a creative writing contest winner. UVI instructors Prof. Gene Emanuel and Dr. Patricia Harkins-Pierre will feature the story of "The Original Webmaster: Anansi and All His Kin" at 6:30 p.m. in the UVI Little Theatre in the Classroom Administration Building on St. Thomas. The creative writing contest winner will be announced at 7 p.m. in the Cafetorium on the St. Croix. Other festival events include concerts and a three-day Margaret Mead Film Festival – April 20-22. Campus Beautification Day Set for April 17 on St. Thomas
The second annual St. Thomas Campus Beautification Day is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, April 17. The event is led by Toni Thomas from the Cooperative Extension Service and Associate Biology Professor Dr. Alice Stanford. Anyone interested in gardening or campus beautification is invited to participate. The day will begin with a tour of some of the campus' plantings, and conclude with a little gardening work at UVI's native plant garden. UVI Employee Service Awards Set April 17, 18; Honorees Listed
UVI's 33rd Annual Service Awards ceremonies are scheduled for April 17 and 18 on St. Croix and St. Thomas, respectively. Along with recognizing retirees and active employees for their service to the University in five-year increments, the ceremonies will also feature the announcement of the Employee of the Year on each campus. The St. Croix ceremony, which will recognize approximately 40 employees, is slated for 2:30 p.m. in the Evans Center Great Hall. The St. Thomas ceremony, which will honor more than 80 employees, will take place at 2:30 p.m. in the Sports and Fitness Center. The public is invited to join in paying tribute to the honorees. A list of honorees is available from the UVI web site.

St. Croix Campus Students Encouraged to Participate in SGA
St. Croix campus students are encouraged to participate in the Student Government Association (SGA) by running for the offices of president, vice president, treasurer and senator (two for each class). Applications (Elections Packets) can be obtained at the Student Activities Office. The election for student government officers and for the student representative to the UVI Board of Trustee is scheduled for April 18. More information is available by calling 692-4188.

Health Services Office Sets April 20 to Meet University Health Requirements
Students, faculty and staff on UVI's St. Thomas campus will have the opportunity to obtain low-cost physicals and other medical services on Friday, April 20. The Health Services Office will provide the services from 8 a.m. to noon and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. This will give students the opportunity to meet all UVI health physical and immunization requirements. Services available include general physicals and pap smears, PPD skin tests, tetanus vaccine and hepatitis vaccine B shots. For information on costs and to make appointments, call the Health Services Center at 693-1124. Note, a free health screening day is also being offered on the St. Thomas campus on April 19.

CLEP Tests on St. Thomas Campus Rescheduled to Apri

Students who registered for the March 27th CLEP (College Level Examination Program) examination are advised that the test has been rescheduled for Wednesday, April 18, in the CATS Computer Laboratory (CA Building – Room 123) on the St. Thomas campus. A second day of testing has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 24, for Spanish CLEP exams only. Students must report to the test site no later than 9 a.m. on each test day with appropriate identification and form of payment. Acceptable identification includes a current driver's license, state or Federal ID, a current passport, tribal ID card, naturalization card or certificate of citizenship. CLEP exams cost $60 per test (payable to College Board), with an additional administrative fee of $15 (payable to UVI). Only checks, money orders, or credit cards are accepted; cash will not be accepted. Call 693-1168 for additional information.

43rd Annual Student Awards Program Slated April 22 on St. Thomas Campus
The 43rd Annual Student Academic Awards Program on UVI's St. Thomas campus is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 22, in the Sports and Fitness Center. UVI to Conduct Virgin Islands Community Survey for 2007
The University of the Virgin Islands will conduct the 2007 Virgin Islands Community Survey during the months of April, May and June. If your household is among those randomly selected to participate in the survey, an interviewer carrying UVI identification will visit your home to ask several housing and population questions. The information provided will be confidential, as the data is published in summary form only. Information gathered from the survey will be used for development planning.
