April 13, 2007 – Delegate to Congress Donna M. Christensen said today that she shares in the community's pain over the senseless death of 12-year-old Laquina Hennis of St. Thomas , whose body was found yesterday after she had been missing since last Friday.
"As a mother and grandmother, I am alarmed and saddened at the violence that claimed her young life and I offer my deepest condolences to her family and friends in this dark hour," Christensen said.
Delegate Christensen commended the Governor, Attorney General and Police Commissioner for their quick response to the needs of the community as this tragedy unfolded. "Their resolve to seek justice for the family and friends of the child strengthens our faith in the leadership of our community."
Delegate Christensen encouraged the entire community to come together as one to ensure greater protection of our most vulnerable citizens, our children. "We have to be even more diligent to ensure their safety and wellbeing in this and many other areas of their lives," she said. "There should be no tolerance for any abuse, violence or neglect of our children," she said. "Zero tolerance has to begin at the earliest level and everyone needs to be about protecting our children."
