April 12, 2007 — Sun Stroke Promotions has announced the selections for the 9th annual Sun Stroke All V.I. Hoop Classic to be held April 13 and 14 in the Central High School gym.
Among the premier sporting events in the territory, the classic brings together the best male and female high school basketball players in the Virgin Islands.
The event was started as a way to get these players exposure and opportunities at college scholarships. This year all 40 players will receive DVD copies of the game to send to the school of their choice. Additionally, Sun Stroke will send the DVD to selected schools that have already expressed interest in certain players. It should also be noted that all expenses are paid by Sun Stroke Promotions.
Friday April 13, at 7 p.m. the event kicks off with the Celebrity basketball game, which features local politicians, entertainers and media personalities. This year will also feature appearances by Rock City, Akon's official DJ, Benny D, and international reggae superstar Mr. Vegas. Mr. Vegas and Benny D will appear in concert at Elizabeth 's at the Palms.
After the Celebrity game will be the Skill Challenge, Slam Dunk Contest and 3-Point Shootout for the High School athletes.
Saturday the St. Thomas vs. St. Croix girls game starts at 7 p.m. to be followed by their male counterparts. There will also be musical performances by BlaKness and guitar soloist Ian. There will be dance performances by Clownin Out and Most Known Unknown. There will also be travel giveaways along with cash giveaways.
This year will again prove why the Classic is classic!

Players are selected by a coaches poll. Sun Stroke Promotions does not vote for any players but simply tabulates the votes.
The head coach is the winner of their respective regular season championship.
