Brief: Community Foundation Announces Youth Scholars Summer Program

April 4, 2007 — The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands (CFVI) is inviting high school students from St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John and Water Island to apply for the 2007 USVI Youth Scholars Summer Program, according to a CFVI release issued Wednesday.
Funded through a Senate appropriation, grants of up to $5,000 each will be awarded to students seeking to attend academically rigorous summer-enrichment programs. This is the first year that the awards are being offered.
To qualify for the program, a student must be a high school student from St. Croix, St. Thomas, St. John or Water Island; be accepted in or have applied to a summer-enrichment program; and have an average cumulative GPA of at least 85.
According to the release, priority will be given to applications that demonstrate a student’s accomplishments both in school and in the community. The quality of the enrichment program will also be an important consideration. Applicants are encouraged to submit their materials as soon as possible. Applications are due at CFVI no later than Monday April 30, 2007.
Applications are available on CFVI’s website or by calling CFVI at 774-6031 or picking them up in person at one of the following locations:
— St. Thomas: CFVI Office, Royal Dane Mall, Suite 2C, Upstairs;
— St. Croix: Lutheran Social Services, 24/27 Hospital Street, Frederiksted; and
— St. John: Connections, Cruz Bay.
