Dear Source:
An Open Letter for our new Tourism Commissioner, Ms. Nicholson-Doty:
We reside on STX and, yes, we are actively involved in the recall effort of Serville, Russell, James and jnBaptiste. The rationale goes way beyond the salaries to the long lasting impact of the entire bill they approved. Unfortunately, the senators being recalled just 'don't get it.'
Having that said, I beg, given the very public racist KKK tirade Serville displayed during the confirmation process, you do not allow him in any way shape or form to represent tourism at any trade show, or any public venue where 'Continentals' may appear as this latest affront to Virgin Islanders has already made it to the states. The ACLU is actively involved and the national news media are following any subsequent action (s) to the recall and Constitutional rights to freedom of free speech as well. Serville openly made divisive comments harming the diverse cultural community we all share in harmony. For this action he should be censored.
With the competition in tourism being so great, along with STX being showcased for increased visitors, we cannot afford an elected official with racist overtones representing us at any event. Hopefully, he will soon be removed by the people, all the people, he was sworn to represent but has failed to do so.
Arnold and Jill Lange
