Military News of Virgin Islanders – March 2007

Air Force Airman Jennifer L. Mertens/St. Thomas
March 2, 2007 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Air Force Airman Jennifer L. Mertens has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
She is the daughter of Donald and Carol Mertens of Estate Nazareth, St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Mertens is a 2004 graduate of All Saints Cathedral School, Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas.
Air Force Airman Xiomara Suliveres/St. Croix
March 20, 2007 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Air Force Airman Xiomara Suliveres has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies. She performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
She is the daughter of Angel and Migdalia Suliveres of Kingshill, U.S. Virgin Islands.
Suliveres is a 2001 graduate of St. Croix Central High School, U.S.V.I.
Army Pvt. Cherlani T. O'Neal/St. Thomas
March 22, 2007 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army Pvt. Cherlani T. ONeal has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, military courtesy, and the military justice system. She received instruction and practice in physical fitness, basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
She is the daughter of Carlos O'Neal of River Mill Court, Ellenwood, Ga. and Herdina Daly of Hidden Valley, Building 17, Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands.
Army National Guard Pfc. Barbara B. Guishard/St. Thomas
March 24, 2007 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army National Guard Pfc. Barbara B. Guishard has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

March 24, 2007 (Army & Air Force Hometown News) – Army National Guard Pfc. Leon R. Frett has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.
During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values and physical fitness. He received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.
Frett is the son of Leonard R. Frett Sr. of Monbijou, St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.
The private is a 2004 graduate of St. Croix Central High School.
