Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted Features Danny Mixon

Feb. 13, 2007 – The Frederiksted Economic Development Association Inc. (FEDA) is hosting a very special Sunset Jazz in honor of Black History Month by presenting Danny Mixon, jazz pianist, from 6-8 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 16. This is also the weekend that the Big Island showcases its renowned Agricultural and Food Fair.
Mixon is an accomplished pianist and organist who has performed all over the world with jazz greats such as Betty Carter, Charles Mingus, Joe Williams, Art Blakely, Marlena Shaw, Yusef Lateef, Lionel Hampton, Oscar Brown Jr., Chaka Kahn, Lou Rawls, Frank Foster and many others. He regularly performs at throughout NY's famed jazz club circuit. As a Harlem Unsung Heroes of African American Classical Music award winner, Mixon has also preformed at the White House, honoring Black Music Month. Sunset Jazz is honored to feature the pianist extraordinaire, with bassist Fred Williams and Ken "Afra" Daley on drums.
Sunset Jazz in Frederiksted concert is a family affair, timed to coincide with the setting of the sun. FEDA welcomes all guests coming for the St. Croix Agricultural and Food Fair to the Sunset Jazz concert. Then, after the show, there is fun to be had at the many fine Frederiksted businesses, restaurants and nightclubs after the concert.
Seating is on the terra firma, so be certain to bring folding chairs or blankets. FEDA will have its drink concession going, with proceeds helping to offset the costs of the concert, so please be cool: no coolers. Other sponsors include FirstBank VI, The Beachside Cafe' @ Sand Castle on the Beach Hotel, WTJX/ Channel 12, which assists every month through their video-taping of Sunset Jazz that airs on Channel 12 Saturday nights at 8 p.m. As a reminder, WVIQ/Sunny 99.5 FM is the official radio station of Sunset Jazz.
