Red Cross Will Hold a Valentine's Day Event

Feb. 7, 2007 – American Red Cross of the Virgin Islands will hold a HIV Prevention outreach event from 10 p.m. to midnight, on Tuesday, Feb. 13, around area nightclubs on St. Thomas. The event will promote community awareness among men and women to protect themselves from contracting HIV.
Studies have shown that people make poor decisions when under the influence of alcohol. The theme "If you love me, protect me" will be promoted on local radio, and culturally and age appropriate materials will be available. There will also be registration forms available for free VOICES/VOCES classes on how to improve your relationship through negotiation skills training. The classes are free and held from 6-7 p.m. every Wednesday, at American Red Cross, Suite 202, Nisky Center. Classes are held in English and Spanish in groups of four to eight people of the same sex.
The Valentine's Day event and VOICES/VOCES classes are funded through a grant from Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for St. Thomas/St. John. For information or to sign up for class, contact Pat Odoms 774-0375, ext. 113.
