Brief: Hovensa Lends Its Support to CareForce Health Event

Oct. 11, 2006 — Once again this year, Hovensa will be a major sponsor of CareForce, an event providing seniors in the territory with vital health services, free of charge.
In a Hovensa release Wednesday, Richard Smullen, vice president of Hovensa's environmental, health & safety division, noted that part of the company's vision is to work with the community to improve the quality of life in the Virgin Islands. "By working with the V.I. Medical Institute, the V.I. National Guard (VING), AARP, United Health Group and community-based organizations, Hovensa will play an important role in providing a valuable health service to our senior citizens free of charge."
CareForce has been conducted annually since 2000 as a joint project of the guard and the medical institute, with the support of sponsors, to provide health screening and immunization services to senior citizens in the territory. Hovensa will supply all the vaccines and medical supplies to be used on St. Croix, St. Thomas and St. John during CareForce 2006. Hovensa has taken an extra step this year to improve the comfort of participants by providing an air-cooling system at the temporary health clinics that will be set up on St. Croix.
Smullen urged all senior citizens in the Virgin Islands to come out to get the health screenings, blood glucose and blood pressure checks, dental and foot exams, and influenza and pneumonia immunizations at one of the following locations:
