Playwrights' Circle Presents 'One of Us'

Oct. 9, 2006 – For one night only, Pistarckle Theater's Playwrights' Circle will present "One of Us" by Kisha Callwood at 7 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 25. Pay as you can.
The play, the second featured in Pistarckle Theater's Playwrights Circle, centers on an elderly mother whose only child's selfishness and anger threatens to destroy the entire family.
The Playwright's Circle is an opportunity for new and emerging authors to gain community feedback from audience members at a special reading. For audience members, it's an opportunity to be the first to see an exciting new work by a local playwright.
Callwood is a native Virgin Islander who attended Addelita Cancryn Junior High School and Charlotte Amalie High School. She finished her high school education in Maryland, and graduated from the University of the District of Columbia. She has worked at the Virgin Islands Daily News and is now an assistant at Tom Bolt & Associates, P.C. on St. Thomas.
There is only one rehearsal in the theater prior to the reading. The stage is furnished with only chairs. The evening is entirely focused on the play, its story and its language. After the reading, the theater's staff guides a discussion between the audience and the playwright.
This is an opportunity to actually say to the playwright what you usually talk about with your friends after seeing a show. Your ideas about the play and what it communicated to you will help shape this new playwright's piece for full production.
The Virgin Islands Council on the Arts has awarded Kisha a grant to stage a production of "One Of Us." This is the first audience for the piece as it moves in that direction.
The Pistarckle Theater is located at 6672 Estate Harmony St. Thomas. For information, contact Nicola Emerich or Bethany Burgess-Smith at 775-7877.
