BOOK IT! Reading Program Celebrates Third Consecutive Year

Sept. 29, 2006 – Juan Mujica, managing director of Kazi Foods of the Virgin Islands, announced the kick-off the BOOK IT! reading incentive program in the territory for the third consecutive year.
This year the Sts. Peter and Paul Grammar School will participate in the program, along with the 481 kindergarten through 6th grade classes in the territory's 23 public schools. The Virgin Islands Department of Education first partnered with Pizza Hut during the 2004/2005 academic year when BOOK IT! was introduced in all St. Croix public elementary schools. It expanded to St. Thomas public elementary schools last year and is now open to interested parochial schools.
"We are extremely pleased that the reading program has grown each year in the U.S. Virgin Islands," Mujica said. "We are committed to working with the Department of Education since this is a program that positively impacts the lives of the territory's children."
A news conference to kick-off the 2006/2007 program will be held at 2 p.m., on Tuesday, Oct. 3, in Sts. Peter and Paul School Library on St. Thomas.
