Reaction to Carnival Proposal Process

Dear Source:
I am a writer/editor specializing in travel and tourism and have written about the Virgin Islands for national publications such as Caribbean Travel & Life and Caribbean Meetings & Events. While I applaud the effort to control accountability, I would urge the Department of Tourism to handle the bidding process earlier – a year in advance. Publications have deadlines to meet if they are to disseminate information designed to attract visitors. I had a September 5 deadline for a feature article on the Crucian Christmas Festival but unfortunately was unable to obtain a firm schedule or theme from representatives of the tourism department due to this bidding process so close to the start of the festival.
