Summer Camps 2006

The following is a list of some summer camps offered for Virgin Islands youth. Interested in joining the list? E-mail the Source with the camp name, dates, ages and a contact phone number.
St. Croix Camps
Basketball Camp
The Virgin Islands Basketball Federation will have a free basketball camp. The "Gimme the Rock" camp begins on June 26 and runs through June 30, at the Tim Duncan Arena, St. Croix Educational Complex.
The camp is free and includes lunch. It is open to the first 100 girls and boys between the ages of 12 and 17 who sign up.
Registration forms can be obtained from the Office of Sen. Usie Richards and the Election System Offices or at the Legal Services office. Parents will be responsible for drop-off and pick-up of participants.

From Page to Stage
Playmakers introduces playwriting to children, and students will learn the basic concepts involved in writing plays. The camp is for students entering grades 7 through 12 in the fall. Dates: July 24 to August 4. Summer program applications due June 7. To register, call Jeanne Johnston, Artistic Director, 712-2144.
Police Athletic League Camp
The Police Athletic League camp originally scheduled to begin on June 26 has been delayed. The new opening date is July 5. The camp will be held at the Burning Bush Center in Christiansted.
Applications for the Christiansted camp are available and cam be picked up at any police station. Completed applications may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m., at the campsite.
Children between the ages of 6 and 16 are invited to participate. Camp hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fees are $60 per child and lunch will be provided.
PAL offers diverse activities including steel pan, swimming, sports, arts and crafts, and field trips.

St. Thomas Camps
Basketball Camp Has Been Canceled
The VIBF has canceled the "Gimme the Rock" camp on St. Thomas due to insufficient registrants.
The Virgin Islands Basketball Federation had planned a free basketball camp on St. Thomas from July 3 through July 7, at the Bertha B. Boschulte Middle School.

Police Athletic League Program
The Crime Prevention Bureau of the Virgin Islands Police Department is presently accepting registration applications for its annual summer program. The Police Athletic League/Students Against Destructive Decisions program will be held on St. Thomas at the E. Benjamin Oliver School, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., from Monday, June 26 to Friday, August 4. Children ages 6 – 14 are invited to participate. Lunch will be provided.
This year's program will feature an array of activities including sports, arts and crafts, field trips and camping.
Registration applications are available at the bureau's office in Barbel Plaza.

Jr. Gardening and Ecology Academy
The Jr. Gardening and Ecology Academy is designed to provide youth ages 7 to 15 with a study of the environment. The academy runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., for eight weeks from June 26 through August 18, at Edith Williams Alternative Academy.
Activities include: gardening, sports and recreational activities, survival skills, guest speakers, academic enrichment, career development, field trips, kayaking, bowling, and arts and crafts. There is a fee of $450 and a non-refundable registration fee of $35. Lunch and snack will be provided; T-shirt, insurance and materials are included.

Montessori Total Camp Experience
The Total Camp Experience will be held at the V.I. Montessori School from June 12 through July 21 will be holding on-site registration dates from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., on Thursday, June 1, Friday, June 2, Monday, June 5 and Tuesday, June 6 at the Montessori School Campus. An additional on-site registration day will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, on Saturday, June 10. The cost is $160 per week.
The Total Camp Experience will cater to ages 3 -14 and activities offered are: volleyball, basketball, soccer, tennis, dance, arts and crafts, pottery, gymnastics, rocket building, weekly field trips and much more.

Camp Fortuna
Bible camp for ages 6 – 14. Dates: July 3 – 29. Tuition: $85 per week. To register, pick up applications at Calvary Baptist Church in Altona, between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Pistarckle Theater
Theater production camp for ages 9 – 18. Dates: June 12 – July 9; auditions June 9 and 10. Tuition: $50 registration plus weekly fee. For auditions and registration information, call 775-7877.
Leadership camp for ages 9 – 18. Dates: July 17 – August 18; auditions July 14 and 15. Tuition: $10 registration plus weekly fee. For auditions and registration information, call 775-7877.
Summer Sensation
Junior Firefighters Corps summer camp of field trips, sports and academics. Dates: June 19 – Aug. 4. Fee is $165 that must be paid by June 17. Applications available at all fire stations, the Main Post Office and the Junior Firefighters Center in Bournefield.
St. John Camps
American Legion
Co-ed flag football program for youth ages 9 through 14. Tuition: $10. Sign-up is available at Connections, Connections East, Keep Me Posted, St. John Hardware and Natures Fruit Stand. The league is also looking for volunteer coaches, referees and others.
