Father's Day Weekend Celebration Begins June 16

June 15, 2006 – The annual Father's Day Weekend Celebration will be held on Friday, June 16 through Sunday, June 18, in Frenchtown. Miss Carenage 2006, Amanda Greaux, will be crowned on Friday night. She is a 2006 graduate of the Sts. Peter and Paul High School. The Committee for the Betterment of Carenage Inc. will also pay tribute with a formal ribbon cutting ceremony and a special presentation to the Moby Dick Committee for its efforts in spearheading and promoting the culture and traditions of the French community.
The event has grown since 1970 when the first formal Father's Day celebration was held and Gov. Melvin Evans crowned Miss Frenchtown, Corrine Danet.
The three-day event will be held in the Joseph Aubain Ball Park. There will be a carnival village with booth owners serving local cuisine and local drinks. There will also be toys and entertainment for the young people.
On Friday night, Nuff Pressure and St. John's Ah We Band will play beginning at 6:30 p.m. On Saturday, Milo's Kings and Cool Session Brass will entertain. On Sunday, the activities will begin with the All Stars Steel Band at 1 p.m. The Get Together Scratch Band will play at 4 p.m., and Sea Breeze Band will close out the celebration on Sunday night.
