Homeownership Expo Offered Saturday on St. Thomas

June 2, 2006 – FirstBank will host its 10th annual Homeownership Exposition at the FirstBank branch on the St. Thomas waterfront from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday.
The expo is offered each June, designated as National Homeownership Month.
"As homeownership is a dream many Virgin Islanders desire to achieve, it can be quite challenging to pursue if you are not sure where to start," said Karen Sprauve, FirstBank Community Reinvestment officer.
The open-house type event offers educational materials and advice on buying a home. Participants learn budgeting techniques, mortgage options and how to repair damaged credit. Participants may also receive a credit report at no charge with a valid picture ID.
Several housing-related agencies and organizations will share information about their programs and services.
"Once someone becomes knowledgeable about the process, barriers are eliminated thus making homeownership more achievable," Sprauve said.
Child care and a continental breakfast will be provided at no cost.
