Highway Improvements to 'Light' up Sunshine Mall Entrance and Intersection

June 1, 2006 — The newly installed traffic signal system at the main entrance to Sunshine Mall Shopping Center on Queen Mary Highway will be operational beginning Friday.
"Improvements to this intersection now provide dedicated turning lanes into the Sunshine Mall Shopping Center and the old Cost-U-Less location through traffic lanes on Queen Mary Highway," Public Works Commissioner George Phillips said in a release issued Wednesday. "It also provides turning pockets to other businesses in the immediate area, pedestrian crosswalks and Vitran bus stop pull-offs with shelters, "Phillips said, adding, "All traffic and pedestrian movements are controlled by the traffic signal system."
Phillips urged motorists and pedestrians to adhere to the traffic signal system. He reminds pedestrians that in order to ensure safe movement across the intersection, they must activate the pedestrian phase by pressing the pedestrian phase button located on the signal poles at each side of the intersection and wait until they have the signal to cross safely.
