Bowsky Elementary to Host Annual Art Show

May 19, 2006 – The general public is invited to the annual art exhibit at Yvonne E. Milliner Bowsky Elementary School to be held from Sunday, May 28 through June 16. Featured works by art club students will be on display along with a selection of artwork by students in the kindergarten through sixth grade. A reception hosted by the school administration will open the exhibit from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., in the school's science lab, according to a press release from Principal Lydia Simmonds-Lettsome.
As part of "Mini Society®" the students created their society, currency, flag and businesses, which culminated in market days. They also learned entrepreneurship, economics, civics and decision-making along the way. The program fosters the idea of youth entrepreneurship through the arts.
The program included workshops conducted by "ArtSmart Friends." These are artists/entrepreneurs who were invited to share their expertise in art and business in order to expose the young people to what they do in the community.
The 2006 ArtSmart Program was funded in part by an Arts in Education grant from the Virgin Islands' Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.
For more information, call the school at 775-3220 or Ms. Osaze at 774-7896.
