Governor Proclaims 'Agriculture Weekend'

Feb. 8, 2006 — Gov. Charles W. Turnbull proclaimed Feb. 17th–20th as "Agriculture Weekend" in the U.S. Virgin Islands, and he called on residents to join him in paying tribute to those Virgin Islanders involved in agriculture.
The governor also authorized commissioners and agency heads to grant administrative leave to nonessential employees on St. Croix, from noon to 5 p.m. Feb. 17 in order to encourage greater participation in the 35th annual Agriculture and Food Fair.
According to the governor's press release, this year's theme, "Agriculture and Tourism: A Perfect Mix in 2006," is "appropriate as Virgin Islanders need to recognize the economic impact of the territory's agriculture industry."
In his release, Gov. Turnbull emphasized that the administrative leave granted does not apply to essential employees, employees on a regular or rotating shift and employees on annual or sick leave.
