Government Workers Get Big Christmas Weekend

Dec. 6, 2005 –– With Christmas and New Year's Day both falling on Sundays this year, Gov. Charles Turnbull is giving local government workers other time off.
They'll get a half-day off from noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 23, which falls on a Friday.
They will also receive Dec. 26, a Monday, off. It is already the Christmas Second Day holiday, so they'll get three-and-a-half consecutive days off.
They'll also all day off get Jan. 2, a Monday, to celebrate the New Year's holiday.
Local government workers on St. Croix will get off from 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 4 to attend the Christmas Festival Food, Arts and Crafts fair.
They'll also get time off from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 5 to attend J'ouvert.
Jan. 6, the day of the Children's Parade, is the Three Kings Day holiday, so local government workers across the territory get the day off.
Gov. Charles Turnbull announced in a Monday press release that employees whose regular or rotating shifts fall on a day in which other employees are granted leave as well as essential employees will be required to work as usual.
He said those employees will not be entitled to future leave.
He also said that he's instructing the Finance Commissioner to review all payrolls submitted for those time periods to ensure compliance.
