Crucian Christmas Festival Fun Nears

Nov. 28, 2005 – The sights and sounds of the Crucian Christmas Festival are coming together for an explosive weekend kick-off.
The youngest members of the Festival royal family will be chosen at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the St. Croix Educational Complex. Four young couples are competing for the coveted title of Festival Prince and Princess. As the Crucian Christmas Festival heats up several activities will kick off this weekend.
"A Global Mix of Cultures, Sounds and Lyrics for Festival 2005-2006" is the theme for this years' Festival and the revelry begins this weekend.
On Saturday, tramping enthusiasts can dust off their dancing sneakers and line up at 6 p.m. with the Hartatak band for the first tramp of the season. After the tramp winds its way from the Frederiksted Post Office to Buddhoe Park, the contestants vying for the titles of Festival royalty will be introduced to the public. This year marks a resurgence in the number of individuals vying for Festival titles, with seven Miss St. Croix contestants, four Prince and Princess couples and three young men competing for the title of Mr. St. Croix. (See Seven Will Compete for Miss St. Croix Crown).
Vying for the title of Festival Prince and Princess are: Teresa Cuencas and Akeem Crispin. Cuencas is an 8-year-old student at the Juanita Gardine Elementary School. Crispin is also 8 and attends the Alfredo Andrews Elementary School.
Couple number two is Rochanna Johnson and Lakish Plante. Johnson is an 8-year-old student at the Evelyn Williams School. Plante is 10 years old and attends the St. Croix Christian Academy.
Couple number three is Ahvitahl Alverez and Justin Davis. Alverez and Davis are both 10 years old and attend the Juanita Gardine School Elementary School.
Couple number four is Aliya Jackson and Maleek Matthew. Jackson is 9 years old and Matthew is 10 years old. The both attend the Church of God Holiness Academy.
The contestants will be judged on their introduction speech, cultural wear, talent, formal cultural wear, and question and answer.
Prince and Princess co-chairpersons Prudence Tuitt and Denise Lewis said the show will be exciting and full of local talent. General admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children.
