Construction Work to Begin on Queen Mary Highway

Nov. 17, 2005 – Traffic on the segment of Queen Mary Highway in front of the Sunshine Mall Shopping Center will be detoured through the shopping center parking lot starting Monday.
George Phillips, Department of Public Works acting commissioner, said in a press release Thursday that this will allow for the construction of a new signalized intersection on Queen Mary Highway that will make for safer entrances to and exits from the Sunshine Mall as well as to the previous location of Cost-U-Less, on the north side highway. The detour will remain until all construction work is completed in May 2006.
The construction work, according to Phillips, entails the relocation of the shopping center's main entrance to the east, the installation of traffic signals, curb and gutter, storm drainage culverts, and new bus shelters plus resurfacing and striping of the roadway.
