Ludington Grant applications accepted

Sept. 17, 2005 – More intense contacts with St. Croix public schools may bolster applications for Ludington Literacy Fund Grants this year, said Lilli Cox, assistant to the associate executive director.
The St. Croix Foundation is accepting applications for the October grant cycle. The grants are for organizations who are looking to start or expand literacy programs on St. Croix.
Last year, the foundation received only four applications. Two of those were approved, and grants went to the Virgin Islands Resource Center for the Disabled and to Juanita Gardine Elementary School on St. Croix. Awarded grants can be as much as $2,500.
"The Ludington is a little more rigorous in terms of who is approved," Cox said. The St. Croix Foundation has administered the program since 2002.
The grant applications "have to have very specific goals that are literacy related," Cox said.
The application deadline is Oct. 15. Applications can be picked up from the St. Croix Foundation, 72 Flag Drive, Gallows Bay. For more information, call the St. Croix Foundation at 773-9898.
