Innovative Provides Little Info on Cable Outage

Aug. 3, 2005 – Innovative Cable TV on St. John went out Tuesday afternoon after a vehicle hit a utility pole on St. John, said Jim Oliver, who works in Innovative's executive office. It was still out Wednesday evening.
He said in an e-mail that the V.I. Water and Power Authority was working to repair the pole.
"As soon as WAPA completes repairs to the pole our cable crews will work to restore cable service as quickly as possible," he wrote in the e-mail.
He said Innovative apologizes for the inconvenience to its customers.
The e-mail did not mention when Innovative expected to have service repaired and whether or not customers could anticipate a reduction in their bill because they did not receive service.
He also did not indicate where and when the pole problem occurred. Additionally, he did not explain the relationship between the pole problem and the cable outage that continues for more than a day.
Because Oliver sent the e-mail at 6:30 p.m., after Innovative closed for the day, he could not be reached for further comment. He did not include a direct phone number with his e-mail.
It took all day to extract this small bit of information from Innovative.
Messages requesting information were left at Innovative's public relations office throughout the morning. In the afternoon, several messages were left at Innovative Cable's executive offices. None were returned.
Finally, Oliver responded around 4:45 p.m. to a message left at the office of Innovative's vice-president for corporate affairs, Holland Redfield. Oliver promised an e-mail that would include full information.
In an unusual twist on cable television outages, a Puerto Rico channel came in on Cable TV Channel 2. It was a bit snowy, but easily visible and audible. No other channels received any signal.
