WAPA Employees Complete Mass Destruction Training

July 25, 2005 – Two V.I. Water and Power Authority employees have completed Homeland Security Training in Weapon of Mass Destruction at the Center for Domestic Preparedness Anniston, Ala.
Melvin A. Gerard, maintenance mechanic first class, and Melvin E. Fleming, line supervisor, have completed courses designed to ensure that they gain skills and confidence to be better prepared to respond to local incidents or potential weapons of mass destruction.
The CDP is operated by the U.S. Department of Homeland and is the only federally-charted Weapons of Mass Destruction training facility in the country. The CDP is also a member of the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium, in partner ship with Louisiana State University, the Nevada Test Site, New Mexico Tech, and Texas A& M.
The CDP provides federally-funded-interdisciplinary training for emergency responders from across the United States and U.S. Territories for the following disciplines: emergency management, emergency medical service, fire service, governmental administrative, hazardous materials, health care, law enforcement, public health, public safety communications, and public works. Training conducted at the CDP assists the nation's emergency response community with the task of prevention of, protection against, response to, and recovery from acts of terrorism.
The CDP training for the two WAPA employees was funded through the V.I. Law Enforcement Planning Commission.
