UVI Extends Registration and Payment Deadline for Continuing Students
The University of the Virgin Islands has extended the deadline for continuing students to register and pay fall semester fees to 3 p.m. on Friday, August 12. Continuing students can avoid a $75 late fee by registering and paying fees by the August 12 deadline. Continuing students register via the Internet. UVI's fall semester classes will begin on Thursday, August 18. A link to UVI's on-line registration page is available on the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu. UVI 2005-2006 Course Catalog Now Available Online

UVI New Student Orientation and Registration Schedule Available Online
Orientation activities for new students enrolling at UVI for fall semester 2005 will begin on Sunday, August 14, on the University's St. Croix and St. Thomas campuses. Registration and fee payment is part of the new-student orientation. Complete orientation schedules are available on the UVI web site – www.uvi.edu.
Final Exam Schedule for UVI's Fall Semester 2005 Available Online
The final examinations for day, evening, graduate and undergraduate classes in UVI's 2005 fall semester are scheduled from Thursday, December 1, through Wednesday, December 7. A complete listing of exam dates and times is now available from the UVI web site's – www.uvi.edu "Academics" page.
UVI's Fall 2005 University Convocation Scheduled August 17
UVI's Fall 2005 University Convocation is scheduled for 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17. Attendance at the convocation is mandatory for UVI faculty and staff. UVI students and alumni are invited to attend. The session will be video conferenced between the St. Thomas and St. Croix campuses. Access will be available in Evans Center rooms 401 and 713 on St. Croix and in Business Education room 110 and Teacher Education room 101 on St. Thomas. CES to Offer Safety Workshop for Tractor Operators on St. Croix on August 2
UVI's Cooperative Extension Service will sponsor a two-day Tractor and Machinery Safety Workshop on Thursday and Friday, August 4 -5. The workshop will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in room 133 of the UVI Research and Extension Center on the St. Croix Campus. Classroom instruction will be supplemented by several hands-on demonstrations such as: skills and driving safety techniques; proper handling of tractor and implements during land preparation.
Dr. Dennis Murphy, professor of Agricultural Engineering and certified safety professional from Penn State University will be available to cover various aspects of tractor and machinery hazards and safety. All interested governmental agencies and private organizations, as well as individual operators, are asked to call UVI Cooperative Extension Service at 692-4069 and register for the workshop by August 2. Certificates of completion will be awarded to participants.
Business Seminar Set for Vendors and Craft Makers on St. Thomas, St. Croix
The Women's Network for Entrepreneurial Training (WNET) Roundtable will host a seminar designed to assist individuals who want to turn home hobbies into successful small businesses in July on St. Thomas and St. Croix. The Roundtable seminar – sponsored by the New Image Foundation and the UVI Small Business Development Center – is titled "Getting Started, Turn Your Passion into Profit." Participants are encouraged to bring samples of their craft, cuisine or artwork to the seminar.
The St. Thomas seminar is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 26, at the SBDC Training Facility at Nisky Center. On St. Croix, the seminar is slated for 1 to 3 p.m. on Friday, July 29, at the SBDC Training Center at Sunshine Mall. Pre-registration is $10. Admission at the door is $15. Business Development Seminar Offered for Veterans on St. Thomas on August 3
A free Business Development Seminar for Veterans is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, August 3, at the UVI Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Training Facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas. The seminar will cover writing and implementing an effective business plan, business financing and federal procurement options. The seminar is presented by the U.S. Small Business Administration and the Virgin Islands' Office of Veterans Affairs. Pre-registration is required. Free Workshop on Diabetes Scheduled August 16 on St. Thomas
A free workshop on diabetes will be offered on St. Thomas from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16, at the UVI Small Business Development Center's Nisky Center training facility. The workshop is offered by UVI's Cooperative Extension Service 4-H/Family and Consumer Sciences Program and the V.I. Department of Health Bureau of Nutrition Services. Participants will learn how much starchy food a diabetic can eat, how to determine serving sizes for starchy foods, how to count carbohydrates, and how to read nutrition food labels. Gemological Institute of America (GIA) Courses

Accredited Jewelry Professional (A.J.P.)

Diamond Grading
— GIA's Diamond Grading course (offered for the first time on St. Thomas) teaches students how to grade diamonds accurately using the International Diamond Grading System created by GIA. Homeland Security – Hazardous Waste Operations
This 40-hour course is open to government agencies only. It is the prerequisite for joining the local HAZMAT team and is equivalent to the OSHA 1910.120-Subpart 2. Date: August 23-26, 2005; Time: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (Tuesday – Friday); Fee: Free; Location: St. Croix
