Buses for Disabled May Get Funding

July 21, 2005 – Organizations that operate specialized buses for elderly and disabled residents should apply to the Public Works Department to help fund their projects, Acting Public Works Commissioner George Phillips said Thursday.
The territory expects to get $466,690 for the fiscal year 2005-2006 from the Federal Transit Administration, he said, adding that the department was sending in its application for the money in July.
In addition to paying for the buses, some of the funds go for planning, he said.
The department is required by the FTA to let the public know when it applies for funding. For more information, contact Phillips or Deputy Commissioner Verne R. Callwood Jr. at 776-4844.
