Golden Rock Area Sewer Line Being Repaired

June 10, 2005 – May Adams Cornwall, executive director of the V.I. Waste Management Authority, said Friday that more than 350 feet of an existing 10-inch iron line will be replaced with 10-inch PVC piping to relieve a sewage overflow in Golden Rock area.
She said in a press release that during the work this weekend the flow is being redirected into a nearby manhole until the repairs can be performed. This pump-around has been established to cease the discharge of sewage into the area east of Breezes Restaurant.
Dean C. Plaskett, commissioner of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources said the Division of Environmental Protection continues to monitor the sewage overflow that developed two days ago.
Cornwall stated, "We have developed the scope of services needed to replace more than 350 feet of line in the area. One of our emergency response contractors, GEC, will be performing the repair work over the weekend."
Residents in the area are asked to avoid the impacted site and to keep children and animals from entering the area.
