Antilles Sailing Team Second in National Event.

June 1, 2005 — Seven sailors representing Antilles School returned from the National Championship for Team racing with a second place finish. The Antilles team had qualified as one of the teams to represent the South Atlantic District in the nationwide competition known as the Baker Cup.
Antilles faced 11 other pre qualified teams to compete for the title of best team-racing high school in America. In team racing each school sails three boats against another team of three. Over 90 races were held over May 28 and 29 at the US Sailing Center of Martin County in Jensen Beach, Fla. The district qualifiers were held at the same location, offering the juniors from the Virgin Islands a preview of the area.
This slight edge in sailing knowledge did not prove to be enough to overcome the first place team from Point Loma High School in San Diego, Calif. The Point Loma team is the twice defending champion of the event and a widely recognized powerhouse of high school sailing. Both the girls and boys U.S. boats in the double-handed division of the International Sailing Federation Youth Worlds in South Korea this summer are coming out of Point Loma High.
The final record was Point Loma 16 wins two losses, Antilles 13 wins five losses. The Antilles team consisted of Cy Thompson, Taylor Canfield and Thomas Barrows as skippers, Rian Bareuther, Sarah Burks and Nathan Rosenberg as crews and Hugo Roller as heavy air alternate.
