Annual PTSA Convention

May 30, 2005 – The annual convention, now in its fifth year, is titled, "PTA Today Building A Better Tomorrow", and will feature eight workshop presentations to include: "We've Built It But Are They Really Coming", "Strategies, for Successes of the New Generation", "IDEA", "HIV and Children", "School Home Connection", "VI Push", "Childhood Obesity", and the "Mother Goose Program".
Margarita Benjamin, USVI-PTSA President encourages members of the public to register and participate in the program. "The convention is always open to public participation. In fact, I strongly encourage all residents to take advantage of this opportunity to hear what we have to say about how PTAs and PTSAs can help our schools and community. As our public schools move toward compliance with the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act, it is very necessary for parents and community persons to be a part of our plans."
The Education Commissioner said, "We are indeed grateful for the work of the USVI-PTSA toward improving the relationship between parents and public schools. This annual convention affords educational stakeholders an opportunity to gain valuable information and insights from a varied perspective. As a collaborative effort between the Department and the USVI-PTSA, the Conference serves to augment the Department's commitment and efforts to encourage and promote parental involvement as well as to foster networking between education personnel, parents, other educators, PTA members and the general public."
The $35 Registration fee for non-members includes lunch and entrance to all scheduled workshops; NPTA members in good standing receive a reduced registration rate of $25; and Students pay only $10 with valid student identification.
