Community Alert: Manhole Overflowing In Campo Rico

April 12, 2005 – An overflowing manhole is discharging raw sewage into the street adjacent to the Campo Rico Pump Station. Dean C. Plaskett, commissioner of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources, said in a release from his office that raw sewage is flowing from the manhole, pooling in the street and flowing into the storm drain under the Melvin Evans Highway.
DPNR is advising the public to avoid the areas around the overflowing manhole especially children and adults with compromised immune systems. Standing or running water in these areas may contain contaminants or pollutants harmful to human health.
DPNR will continue to monitor the impacted area. For additional information regarding water quality please call the Division of Environmental Protection at 773-1082.
