Digital Media Institute Seeks Applicants

Feb. 28, 2005 — The Reichhold Center for the Arts' Digital Media Institute is seeking applicants and participants for the Youth Television Workshop, held from Feb. 24 through May 21, and the Adult Digital Video Workshop, held from March 7 through 23.
The third session of Youth Television Workshop is hosted by the Reichhold Center for the Arts and the Law Enforcement Planning Commission. The purpose of this after-school and weekend workshop is to develop a local television program, "Word," for the youth of the Virgin Islands, produced by the youth of the Virgin Islands.
"Word" is a news magazine style television program set to launch this summer. The format includes documentaries, biographies, and reports on events pertinent to the youth of the Virgin Islands and the Caribbean. "Word" will also highlight current events that directly affect young people such as the arts, entertainment, sports and other topics of interest.
Workshop participants will be taught the skills needed to produce television programs, including camera basics, lighting and microphone techniques, scriptwriting, communications, video and audio editing, graphics, collaboration and audience development.
The Youth Television Workshop is from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays, and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays from Feb. 24 until May 21. There is a $60 equipment fee for students, but the workshop is free. Snacks and meals are not provided. There are 20 openings for workshop participants between the ages of 14 and 18.
In addition to the Youth Television Workshop which is geared toward Virgin Islands youth, the Digital Media Institute will also feature a video workshop for adults. The Adult Digital Video Workshop is an intensive, hands-on program that lasts three weeks, from 6 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Wednesdays, March 7 through 23.
During this intense workshop participants will get an understanding of camera basics, camera movement, picture composition, sound and video editing, lighting, scriptwriting, storyboarding, pre-production, production, as well as footage critique. There are six spaces in the adult workshop. The cost for the Adult Digital Video Workshop is $450 plus a $50 equipment fee.
