Student Finalist in Essay Contest

Feb. 16, 2005 — Carlotta Cornelius, a student at Ricardo Richards Elementary School, and a Junior Division Competitor, was selected as a finalist in the 2004 Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association Foundation's Caribbean Children's Essay Contest. Pamela Richards, Tourism commissioner, made the announcement.
"Our students continue to demonstrate that the children of the Virgin Islands can compete successfully and with distinction. A contest of this magnitude showcases our students knowledge on the tourism industry and reinforces the importance of tourism to our islands," said Richards.
The essay topic was, "How has the cruise industry and/or cruise passengers impacted my country." Cornelius was awarded $200 for reaching the final round of competition.
The essay contest is an annual event hosted by the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association for junior and senior division students throughout the Caribbean.
