Feb. 17, 2005 – In its less than a year of operation the St. John Animal Care Center served as a temporary home for about 400 animals, paid for veterinary care and nursing until adoption, located some 200 adoption homes, rescued 18 cats and dogs from abusive circumstances, sterilized more than 250 cats, supplied food to 18 feeding stations, and reunited dozens of lost owners to their animals.
The center was forced to temporarily close down in October 2004 due to lack of funds. On March 5, you can have a great time and contribute to raising funds for a reopening.
To that end, the Paws and Claws "Mask"erade is offering an evening in an elegant setting, fabulous food with courses highlighting cuisine from several of St. John's finest restaurants, a live auction for excitement and a silent auction for the quiet types, and a DJ to spin tunes for dancing.
The event takes place from 7 p.m. March 5 at the Westin Resort. Wear a mask, please: Bring your own, or purchase an animal mask at the door. "Bring a credit card, your check book and plenty of cold, hard cash," a release suggests, and call Valerie Peters at 714-6077 for reservations.
