Public Invited to Submit to UVI Short Story Contest

Feb. 9, 2005 – As part of its annual Humanities Festival 2005, "Focus On The Folk: Virgin Islands Arts and Culture," the humanities division at the University of the Virgin Islands announces a short story contest. The festival is April 3-9, with events on both St. Thomas and St. Croix. Deadline for story submissions is March 15.
Prizes will be awarded for the best stories in the following four categories: grade school, high school, college and community. Winners will read their stories at the Short Story Reading on the St. Thomas campus during the Humanities Festival, April 8.
Special consideration will be given to stories that tie in with the festival theme. Submit stories of 3,000 words or fewer with title only on manuscript, and with name, mailing and e-mail address and telephone number along with category of entry and title of story (for each submission) on a separate sheet. No manuscripts will be returned; only winners will be notified.
Mail submissions to Dr. David Gould, UVI Humanities Division, RR1, Box 10,000, Kingshill, VI, 00850.
