Feb. 10, 2005 – Calling on the imaginations of St. Croix students in grades 7 through 12, Juan F. Luis Hospital and Medical Center employees, and the general public: The Hospital is seeking designs for a logo for its expanding Virgin Islands Cardiac Care Center.
The Luis Hospital is expanding its heart center to provide comprehensive cardiovascular care to the residents of the U.S. Virgin Islands and the entire Caribbean. The contest will allow the community to participate in designing a logo which would be a permanent symbol for the cardiac center, illustrating the importance of the center to the V.I. community and the health care system, a release said.
"The VICC Logo Contest will create more community interest in the hospital. It is very important to have the entire community play a role in helping JFLH in its pursuit of excellence, so we are encouraging full participation. This will also be an opportunity to showcase Virgin Islands' talent," Gregory J. Calliste, chief executive officer, said in the release.
The Virgin Islands Cardiac Care Logo Contest categories and criteria are as follows:
Categories:
— Junior high and high school, grades 7 through 12 (all schools).
— JFL Hospital employees.
— The general public
Criteria:
— Submit an 8×10, original sketch.
— Logo must depict a realistic or abstract interpretation of related cardiac care industry or human heart.
— All submittals become property of JFL Hospital and therefore, will not be returned.
— All participants must submit their name, address, telephone number and a brief biography.
— All packages must be submitted by Feb. 28, 2005, to:

Prizes:
— Top 3 (1st, 2nd, & 3rd) selections of each category will be announced.
— 1st place winners from each category will go on to the final round as "The Selected Logo."
— Overall winner will get $500 cash prize and complimentary tickets to the Hospital Ball.
— 1st Place Winners will receive:
– Schools – Gift Certificate from Educational Central.
– Hospital Employee – $250 check & complimentary tickets to the Hospital Ball.
– General Public – two (2) round trip tickets to Puerto Rico.
— 2nd & 3rd Place Winners:
Second and third place winners will receive a trophy. All participants will receive a booklet of all submitted logos with artists' biography with winning logo on the cover.
