Residents Can Get Energy Audit

Jan. 31, 2005 –– Your Electric bill gone sky high? Want to find ways to make it lower?
A collaborative effort between the V.I. Energy Office and the V.I. Water and Power Authority may help.
Staff from the two agencies will come to your home, office or business to assess where you stand on energy consumption.
Jamal Nielsen, Department of Planning and Natural Resources spokesman, said Monday the staff will make recommendations on how the resident can cut energy usage.
"Change your light bulbs or use different windows. That kind of stuff," he said.
He said the staff will first evaluate the electric bills. Those whose bills went up or down dramatically or seem to have meter problems are customers targeted in this audit.
"It's to see if it's the habits in the home," Nielsen said.
He said that everyone's electric bill has gone up because of rising fuel costs, but the staff will factor that in.
The first 100 people who apply on St. Thomas/St. John/Water Island and the first 100 who apply on St. Croix will be eligible to participate.
You must apply between Feb. 1 and Feb. 15.
Call the Energy Office at 773-1082, extension 2251 or apply at WAPA business offices for pre-screening and application information.
