Governor Nominates Two for Board Seats

Jan. 28, 2005 – Gov. Charles W. Turnbull noiminated two women Thursday to serve to serve on two of the territory's boards and commissions. Caroline Polydore-Simon of St. Thomas was nominated to serve on the Public Television System, WTJX Channel 12, board of directors and Gwendolyn Hall Brady of St. Croix was appointed to serve on the V.I. Commission on the Status of Women.
Simon, a graduate of the University of the Virgin Islands, has a bachelor's degree in business administration and is currently the marketing manager of UVI's Community Engagement and Lifelong Learning program (UVI CELL) program.
"Simon is a young Virgin Islander who possesses the skills and training to serve on the board of directors for WTJX," Turnbull stated in a release issued Thursday. "I have every confidence that she will be an asset to the board."
Turnbull asked the Legislature for a "prompt and favorable" consideration to allow the board to "continue to meet its agenda without interruption."
If the Senate confirms Simon, she will serve for a period of four years.
Brady will replace Ruth Harrigan Beagles on the Status of Women Commission for the remainder of the two-year term. Her appointment does not require Senate confirmation.
A Florida State University graduate, Brady holds a bachelor's and a master's degree in Social Work. She also has a law degree from Howard University.
Besides her role as assistant vice president/compliance officer for Banco Popular de Puerto Rico's Virgin Islands' Region, Brady is involved in several community service and volunteer organizations including Special Olympics, American Cancer Society and U.S.V.I. Women's Business Center.
Prior to her current position, Brady also worked as Division of Banking and Insurance director in the Office of the Lieutenant Governor and as Employment Rights manager for the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
Turnbull expressed thanks to Brady for her "willingness to serve the people of the Virgin Islands on this very important board."
