UVI's Fall 2004 Semester Drawing to A Close; Classes End Today – Nov. 29
The last day of classes in the University of the Virgin Islands' 2004 Fall Semester is today – Monday, Nov. 29. Final exams are scheduled for Nov. 30 through Dec. 6.
Spring 2005 Registration Notes:
Online Registration Continues Through Dec. 3
Online registration for the Spring 2005 semester at the University of the Virgin Islands will continue to be available for all returning students through Dec. 3.
— Payment Deadline Dec. 17; Newsletter for Students Available
The payment deadline is Dec. 17. Students are urged to save the $75 late registration fee by paying on time. This and other helpful information for students about registration is available in the new newsletter – Registrar's Office News for Students – which is available on the UVI web site from a link on the home page – www.uvi.edu.
— Registrar's Newsletter for Faculty Available
The Registrar's Office has also prepared a Registrar's Office News – for Faculty. This is also available on the UVI web site under the Faculty/Staff link on the home page – www.uvi.edu..
— Spring Semester Begins Jan. 13; Information, Class Schedules Are Online
UVI's Spring semester will begin on Jan. 13, 2005, and end on May 8, 2005. Spring class schedules are available on the UVI web site's – www.uvi.edu – Academics page. Access to online registration is also available from links on the UVI home page.

UVI Business Students Plan Three Presentations on St. Thomas Campus
The UVI Community is invited to three presentations detailing work on marketing and business plans developed by UVI Business Division students in the course of their studies. The presentations are scheduled on the St. Thomas campus as follows:
— Tuesday, Nov. 30 – Business 234 – Advertising and Promotional Strategy
Students of Business 234 will discuss a controversial but emerging practice called neuromarketing. Neuromarketing is the practice of using various brain scanning technology to identify the brainwave frequencies associated with buying a particular product and brand. Students will showcase their TV, radio and print advertisements after a brief presentation.
Time: 5:30 p.m. Location: Chase Auditorium (Business Education Room 110)
— Thursday, Dec. 2 – Business 330 – Production/Operations Management
Students of the Production/Operations Management course have been building upon work done by the summer session Business 241 students to develop a business plan for a UVI student-managed snack food and beverage cart business. This will be a real business that students will operate through a student club that is being established called the National Entrepreneurship Association.

— Thursday, Dec. 2 – Business 436 – Business Strategy
Business Strategy students have developed a comprehensive business plan for a Tampa-based entrepreneur who has investors interested in potentially investing in his restaurant concept which he plans to establish in Las Vegas. The entrepreneur's restaurant concept is distinctive. The entrepreneur is expected to be present for the presentation.

An on-line slide show documenting UVI President Dr. LaVerne E. The slide show can be accessed from the Alumni Affairs navigation button on the UVI home page – www.uvi.edu.
Employee Benefits Fairs Set for St. Croix, St. Thomas Campuses Dec. 1 and 2
The annual UVI Employee Benefits Fairs will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 1 on the St. Croix campus in the Student Center, and on Thursday, Dec. 2, on the St. Thomas campus in the Sports and Fitness Center, second floor. Representatives from the Government Employees Retirement System (GERS), TIAA/CREF, Cigna, Cigna Behavorial, the EPA, MASA, AFLAC, the Social Security Administration, United Way, SkyMed and other agencies will be available to answer your questions and to share information with UVI employees on benefits, wellness and more.
Free health screenings by the East End Health Center will be available on the St. Thomas campus. On both days, the fairs will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information call 693-1426.
Women/Girls HIV-AIDS Conference Set on St. Croix Campus on World Aids Day
Wednesday, Dec. 1, is World AIDS Day. A Women/Girls HIV and AIDS Conference has been scheduled on UVI's St. Croix campus for that day from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The conference will take place in the UVI Cafetorium. For more information, call 773-1992 or 682-9111 for details.
VI-RC&D to Donate Grant Resource Library to UVI Library System
The V.I. Resource Conservation and Development Council, Inc. (VI RC&D) has announced that it will donate a Grant Resource Library to the University of the Virgin Islands' (UVI) Library System. The official library unveiling will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, Dec. 3, at the UVI St. Croix campus. Interested government and non-governmental organization representatives, as well as members of the general public, are encouraged to attend and browse through the Library materials. UVI's Music Program Christmas Concert Slated for Dec. 4 at the Reichhold
A Christmas Concert will be presented by the Music Program at the University of the Virgin Islands at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts. Sponsored by UVI's St. Thomas campus Humanities Division, the program will include performances by the UVI Concert Band, directed by Austin A. Venzen, the UVI Concert Choir, directed by Kirsten Kienberger, the UVI Jazz Ensemble, directed by Martin J. Lamkin, and the UVI Steel Pan Ensemble, directed by Shenella Werner.
Tickets are $15 for adults and $10 for students. Ticket outlets include the Reichhold Box Office, the UVI Bookstore, the UVI Humanities Division and Dockside Bookshop in Havensight Mall.
St. Croix Campus Holiday Party Set Dec. 4
The St. Croix Campus Holiday Party will be held on Saturday, Dec. 4 at Bogey's at the Cane Bay Reef Club. The evening will begin with a cocktail hour beginning at 6 p.m., followed by dinner at 7 p.m. Music will begin at 9 p.m. Tickets, for meals only, are $25 per person. All other expenses will be taken care of by contributions already committed. Tickets are available from Jennifer Jackson, Claude Steele, Peter Abrahams or Joyce Hobson.
UVI St. Thomas Campus Holiday Party to Feature the Starlites Dec. 7
The UVI community is invited to attend the St. Thomas campus Holiday Party scheduled for 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Reichhold Center for the Arts. Join the UVI family for a holiday dinner catered by Lillian's Caribbean Grill, followed by dancing with music by the Starlites band. Tickets are $20 and are available at the Reichhold Center, the UVI Bookstore (St. Thomas campus) and the Cashier's Office. Please purchase tickets by Dec. 2. There will be a cash bar. Wastewater Treatment Workshop Set Dec. 6-7; Signup Deadline Nov. 30
UVI's Cooperative Extension Service's Water Quality Program will conduct a two-day Decentralized Wastewater Treatment Training workshop on Dec. 6 and 7 at the Small Business Development Center's Training Facility at Nisky Center on St. Thomas. The workshop, which is free, will run from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. It is open to local government personnel, University staff, community organizations, non-governmental organizations, cooperatives and other interested persons. Day one will target regulators, educators and those charged with disseminating wastewater treatment information to others. The second day is geared towards architects, builders and the general public. The workshop is sponsored by the Cooperative Extension Service, EPA Region II, Cornell University, Rutgers University and the University of Puerto Rico. Although the workshop is free, participants must confirm attendance no later than Nov. 30. For more information call 693-1086.
