Sunday Concert Will Raise Funds to Bring Harpist

Nov. 12, 2004 – Music lovers on St. Thomas are in for a treat Sunday afternoon at Frederick Lutheran Church: solos and choirs, tenor and baritone-bass, a number of instruments, Franz Schubert to Paul Hindemith to Charles Wuorinen.
All this is in store for those who come to the church at 4 p.m. for a fund-raising program sponsored by the University of the Virgin Islands choir and showcasing voice students in particular.
Kirsten "Kristi" Kienberger on bassoon in a Hindemith sonata and student Divina Martinez on piano are among performers. Professor Lorna Young-Wright will accompany the choir on piano, voice students Marie Simmonds and Marie Chapman will sing; visiting baritone-bass Gary Richter will offer Schubert songs, and tenor Ian Williams Sr. will sing "Pieta Signore."
The varied program of instrumentalists and singers will raise funds to bring a harpist — and her harp — to the islands to play when the UVI Choir performs Benjamin Britten's "Ceremony of Carols" at the traditional UVI Christmas concert on Dec. 4.
Donation is $10 for adults, and $5 for UVI students and children 12 and under.
