UVI Closed for Liberty Day
Both campuses of the University of the Virgin Islands will be closed on Monday, Nov. 1, in observance of D. Hamilton Jackson Day, also known as Liberty Day. UVI will re-open on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Spring Semester Registration Set
The 2005 Spring Semester registration for returning students on the St. Croix campus is scheduled for Nov. 2-12. For more information call the Academic Services office on St. Croix at 692-4158.
The 2005 Spring Semester registration for returning students on the St. Thomas campus is scheduled for Nov. 5-10 for undergraduate students and Nov. 11-12 for part-time and graduate students. For more information call the Admission office at 693-1150.
The 2005 Spring semester begins on Jan. 13, 2005 and ends on May 8, 2005.
Golden Key General Meeting Set for Nov. 5
A general membership meeting of the St. Croix campus chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society will be held from 5:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 5. For more information call 692-4181.
UVI to Host 'Weekend of Champions' Basketball Tournament
UVI will host a 'Weekend of Champions' basketball tournament featuring top teams from the St. Thomas Amateur Basketball Association Summer League. The UVI Bucs men's team will take on three other teams in the tournament scheduled for October 29-31 at the Sports and Fitness Center. The teams are the 2004 Summer League Champion Jam Squad, the 2003 Summer League Champion TWI and the very popular Jah Youths.
"Eventually we want to include the champions from St. Croix and the BVI," Bucs Coach Sean Georges said about the tournament which will give the Bucs game play as they prepare for ODI games.
The nightly entry fee is $2 for adults and $1 for children. Refreshments will be on sale. The line-up is as follows:

Jah Youths vs. UVI
– 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30
Jam Squad vs. Jah Youths

– 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 31

Staff vs. Students Softball Game Re-scheduled for Oct. 29
All UVI St. Thomas campus faculty and staff are invited to compete against UVI students in a softball game scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, – weather permitting – at the UVI field. Gloves will be provided.
Family Fun Jumps Off this Weekend with Xtaushun and Xpress Bands
The UVI St. Croix campus invites all alumni, faculty, students and staff of the University to attend the Annual Family and Friends Weekend, scheduled for October 29-31. The weekend will include several activities beginning with 'Midnight Bowling' scheduled for 10 p.m. on Oct. 29, at Tropical Ten Pins Bowling Alley. Activities continue with a welcome reception and karaoke from 6-10 p.m. on Oct. 30, in the Cafetorium. A jam featuring the Xtaushun and Phranchise bands will follow.
The highlight of the event is the Family Fun Day scheduled for noon to 8 p.m. on Oct. 31. The fun day will include a softball game with a UVI team versus a team made up of Central High School classes of the 1970's. Xpress Band will provide live entertainment. Other activities scheduled for the fun day are sack races, dominoes, a greased pig chase, watermelon eating contest, Sumowrestling, face painting and tie-dying.

Oct. 29 is Submission Deadline for 2005 V.I. Agrifest Bulletin Articles
The VI Agriculture & Food Fair Board is once again soliciting articles of interest to the Virgin Islands community for publication in the 2005 V.I. Agrifest bulletin. The V.I. Agriculture and Food Fair is scheduled for Feb. 19-21, 2005, at the Department of Agriculture Fair Grounds on St. Croix. The fair grounds are located north and west of UVI's St. Croix campus in Estate Lower Love. The theme for the fair is "Keeping Agriculture Alive Through Technology in 2005." The deadline for submission of articles is Friday, Oct. 29. Articles may be submitted to Kofi Boateng, executive vice president of the fair, to Errol Chichester in the Department of Agriculture, or to Faye Reed at the Commissioner of Agriculture's office. Articles will be accepted by e-mail, fax, diskette or hard copy. Send e-mail to Boateng at kboaten@uvi.edu, his fax number is 692-4085. St. Croix Campus 2005 Senior Class Meeting Set Oct. 31
Members of the UVI 2005 graduating class on the St. Croix campus are invited to attend a general meeting scheduled for 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 31, in the Theatre, Evans Center room 401. For more information contact Joyce Hobson 692-4110.
Hotshots Wins Volleyball Intramural on St. Croix
'Hotshots' staved off a first game come-from-behind challenge by 'Above The Rest' and went on to convincingly win by scores of: 25-23, 25-14, and 25-16. Top players for 'Hotshots' were David Obando and Amina Henderson. While Godfrey Fredericks and Davilyn Alexander led 'Above The Rest.' Semi-final action continues at 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 3 with 2nd place 'Hotshots' again taking on 3rd place 'Above The Rest'. For more information contact Coach Bruce Wray at 692-4139.
