Hovensa To Conduct Housing Evacuation Drill

Oct. 28, 2004 – On Saturday morning, Oct. 30, Hovensa will conduct a housing evacuation drill. During the drill, the evacuation sirens in all of the housing areas at the refinery will be sounded, and the residents will evacuate their homes and go to their designated assembly point.
Hovensa Vice President Alex Moorhead emphasized that the activity on Saturday is only a drill. He said in a press release that in the event of an actual emergency in the refinery, which would be expected to have an impact on homes and businesses outside the refinery, the company would promptly notify the V.I. Territorial Emergency Management Agency and the Local Emergency Planning Committee in accordance with standing procedures with those agencies. Those agencies would in turn notify people in the affected areas as to what actions to take, Moorhead said.
