Oct. 14, 2004 V.I. PUSH (Parents Uniting Students and Home) now has a volunteer office on the Lockhart Elementary School campus, according to Lisa Forde, assistant principal.
Although parents assisted periodically with the PUSH program last year, it is hoped that the addition of a location specifically identified for this purpose will help to got more parents involved in the program, she said in a release.
"The intent of PUSH is to involve parents, on a daily basis, in the activities at their child's school. We encourage parents to spend time at the school and to help in whatever capacity they can as a PUSH volunteer," Karen Julien, parent volunteer coordinator with V.I. PUSH, said.
"Already this year, parents have filled in as chaperones on field trips where teachers could not," Forde said. "The addition of PUSH volunteers gives the school some additional assistance. Parents help in a variety of ways providing additional discipline, caring and general assistance in the classroom."
