Sustainable Fisheries Will Be Discussed at Workshops

Oct. 5, 2004 – Caribbean Fishery Management Council will conduct workshops to explain and discuss the management measures being considered under the draft Amendment to the Fishery Management Plans, as required by the Sustainable Fisheries Act.
The workshops are a preamble to the public hearings that will be held in the near future. The alternatives being considered in the Sustainable Fisheries Act range from no action to total closure of the Exclusive Economic Zone.
Commissioner Dean C. Plaskett, of the Department of Planning and Natural Resources urged all fishers to take advantage of this opportunity to interact with the government officials that will be conducting the SFA public hearings in November 2004.
The date for the St. Croix workshop Oct. 6, at the Divi Carina Hotel, St. Croix 7 p.m. -I0 p.m.
