Child May Have Been Victim of Retaliation

Sept. 29, 2004 – A 4-year-old boy, identified as Leon Bowery by the V.I. Police Department, may have been the victim of retaliation for a homicide two years ago.
Bowery died of multiple gunshot wounds Monday, when an unidentified individual opened fire on the car he was in. His mother and 7-year-old brother, along with 26-year-old Clement Connor Jr., were also in the car, which was parked in the Michael Kirwan Terrace Housing Community.
The unidentified 7-year-old and Connor both received gunshot wounds as well. Bowry's mother was not injured during the incident.
Territorial Chief Novelle Francis said Wednesday that Connor had been out of jail on bail. Connor, along with Gregory Williams, had been charged for the slaying of Travis Poleon during the 2002 Labor Day weekend.
"This is probably a retaliation," Francis said.
The police have not identified any suspects in the case.
